Reinvent the Lens

Mary Bowen, Editor-in-Chief

Reinvent the Lens is an online journal dedicated to film theory, movie/television history, and the cinematic medium’s intersections with other artistic disciplines, ideas, and cultural constructs. There are spoilers, and occasionally pretensions. Both scholarly criticism and personal reflections have a home here. High art and so-called low art are intimately acquainted.

The first filmmakers sought to understand the human brain and cinematic language was born. Brains evolve and devolve and so does film –we are constantly reinventing the lens.

"A film’s images and sounds never fail to tell the story of how and why they were produced– the story of the mode of their production."
